A company note to all

A view of the garden from the side of the house, out the garden gate, into the garden
and a few other pictures, which are now a few years old.
I hope to update these images this season.
uv
n Acres began when we moved from a two-story house in the city to a fixxer-upper in the country.
Barren, empty, hopeless it seemed at times. It's funny to review the photos of how it all looked in the beginning.
Little by little, plants were added, things were changed, and many a rock was hauled. The result became an abundance of greenery and quite a rewarding site in full bloom. We've created this site to share this bounty with the rest of the gardening world!
We're proud to be 'backyard' gardeners! Many big nurseries hire help at low wages. They often muse and laugh at little gardens such as ours, calling us 'backyard gardeners'. We find this to be quite a compliment, thank you!
We do it all by ourselves. We're not fancy, we're not big time, but we're having a ball doing it!

Seems funny, when someone mentions 'daylily' most folks think of yellow and
orange flowers in the ditches. Poisonous, yes, but cut the seed pods off before they form,
and you've got a stunning Amazon plant in just a few months! Gorgeous
greens, mints, pinks and a truly divine red variety to ooh and ahh over. A
good helping of fertilizer and some good summer sun is all you'll need for
this wonderful Ricinus communis, a tropical wonder! Come see photos and find
more information about these exotic plants, click here to order your
seeds any time of the year, though the early birds always get the good ones
first!
Here at Wuv'n Acres, we grow quite a few morning glories every year. While
we have tried and even provided many varieties of this easy-to-grow bloom,
we found that many of the Morning Glory types just did not compare to the
flashy newfangled blooms on the market today. We're happy to have a brief
list of the best, in our opinion. Click here to see our Morning
Glory page
Oh, but not so, they are much more beautiful than you ever imagined!
Gaze at a few of these beauties and you'll be hooked!
An interesting tidbit, 'daylily' is not spelled incorrectly. There are but
two L's in the word. A daylily is not an Easter lilly, nor an Asiatic,
Tiger, Oriental or otherwise. Botanically speaking, the Hemerocallis.
Surely you need at least one? Two? Three? One Hundred? This is our newest addition to the
site with new updates often. If you wish to order
online, just send a list of cultivars you
would like to order and we'll go from there. You may also order through the mail
with our order form, which is available here.
We also carry many seeds for some wonderful crosses of registered cultivars!

The beginning of The Ring in
2003
Just a few of our featured blooms!

Though Hollyhocks have been a long standing passion of mine, they didn't
always have a special place to call home.
The Ring began in the
summer of 2003. I cheated just a tad by transplanting plants from other
locations in our gardens, thus getting a good jump start on the ring's
fullness. After the hocks have died back for the season, the ring doubles as
a ring for our Castor Bean plants!

GOURDS
If you don't know what a gourd is, or for that matter, what you can do with
one, you will be amazed! For those unfamiliar, hardshelled gourds begin with
but a seed, grow lush beautiful vines covered with white crepe-paper-like
blossoms and produce unique fruits in a variety of shapes. But even better,
once the annual vines die, cut the fruit from the vine and allow them to
cure and mold. No need to worry, this is nature's way of drying them. out.
Once you scrub the mold off, the result is almost plywood hard and
beautiful. Now you can cut, paint, woodburn, and do so much more to them.
Intrigued yet? Come order your
own seeds!
Special presentation! For inspiration, Come see New Mexico Artist Lady
GourdIva's site for some amazing artwork on gourds as well as a tutorial
for making her unique Peeled Apple Gourd! GourdIva is the Featured Gourd
Artist for the month of May on ClubGourd.
Congratulations, Iva!
CASTOR BEANS
LUFFA SPONGE GOURDS
Though not actually a gourd, often referred to as a third family member.
Betcha didn't know these scrubby things were grown in the garden! Many folks
think Luffa are intended for the shower, but if you've ever used an overly
rough luffa, you most likely didn't care for the sloughing of your skin. Our
luffa are grown over a long season in full sun with plenty of Oklahoma
sunshine, producing a large sponge without the roughness of a chemically
altered bath scrubber.
A tutorial on making luffa soap is provided, you'll want to visit this page
just for the fun of it. You may also wish to visit here to see how we grow
luffa, and even better, you can order seeds to grow your own
luffa!
Be sure to note you'll need patience and a long growing season for
them to reach maturity!
VEGGIES AND OTHER EDIBLES
Long gone is the little girl who wouldn't eat her veggies, I love growing them as well as eating them!
Oddball vines with edible leaves - Red Climbing Spinach! A football shaped fruit with insides that take the place of spaghetti noodles - Spaghetti Squash! Oh, it's so much fun growing things you can eat! We have a good stock of various Okra, tomatoes, peppers, onions, beans, tomatillos, squash and so much more. Come see which fun Veggies and Edibles are waiting for you!
MORNING GLORIES
FLOWERS
We have many wonderful flower seeds available sure to please most any
gardener. Most of our seeds are intended for zones 4-9, but a few tricks and
tips will help you to grow those 'out-of-zone' beauties you long for in your
garden. Fragrant and heavily scented plants such as Datura and Four-O-Clock,
not to mention the stunning Passion Flower...you can't help but to stare at
this one! We carry many flowers that attract honey bees, and why not? Hubby

few you haven't heard of since grandma mentioned it. Click here to visit our
FLOWER SEED page.
HERBS
Before you move on, you should consider what you're missing by passing over herbs. Many people don't realize the
herb world offers so much more than just green leafy things to sprinkle on soup. Have a gander at our herb listings
for everything from Cat Nip to Lion's Tail, Rue and Toothache plant. Kids and adults alike enjoy chewing on the leaves of
the toothache plant, which numbs the gums for a short period. Click here to visit our
HERBS & SPICES seed page.
HONEY BEES
One of our newest additions, our Honey Bee Apiary! While it began as my
interest, hubby took this one over with a passion, and hey, I'm all for it!
I enjoy the fringe benefits while he does all the work! In the summer of
2006, our nine hives were a-buzz with plenty of honey! We process honey for sale in late June / July, so please give us a buzz if
you are searching for some quality honey! Currently available - a 12 oz. plastic bear, a 3 oz. glass hexagon sampler,
or a 12 ounce glass hexagon jar with a golden lid. Click here for our Beekeeping
page
