BEEKEEPING

You'll never have so much fun getting an education!

Even if you don't intend to keep honeybees, you would be amazed at the information learned just by scanning through a library book. Amazing factoids are plenty when it comes to the life of honey bees. Visit your local library today!

Here at Wuv'n Acres we grow hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of plants, each offering various forms of foliage, beauty, shade, pollen, etc. What better place to keep honeybees than at a seed supply base? So...here we go!

Special thanks to Bill Kloehr of Hulbert, Oklahoma for getting us started.
Extra thanks to J.R. Baker of Hulbert for his mentoring ways.
More thanks to Vivian Cox for allowing us to purchase her extra stock to begin beekeeping.

While this section of our website is new, it will be updated as often as time allows.
I'll share what we've learned in hopes that one day we can help someone interested in the hobby of beekeeping.

HONEY...PURE, RAW, CHEMICAL / ADDITIVE FREE

PURE, UNADULTERATED CLEAN, RAW HONEY

All natural from our honey bee apiary located right here in the countryside of Northeastern Oklahoma. We are located close to Tulsa, Muskogee, Tahlequah, Wagoner, Broken Arrow, etc.

Hot, hot, hot summer time is when our honey is harvested, and it's ready to ship anywhere in the United States!

Pure, fresh, chemical free, unheated raw honey. Processed in sanitary conditions, this is as good as it gets, folks! Come see our web page or look at our other auctions and you'll know why we harvest so much honey!

Each jar is filled to the top and capped. The bear features a flip-top which has an additional seal to keep in freshness. Simply poke a hole in the safety seal or remove it completely before using. All honey will eventually turn solid, but fear not, this only means it is turning to sugar. This can be resolved by placing the jar in warm water for a bit. Microwaves are handy, but be extremely careful...the honey heats up quickly, the jar is full, and the bear is made of plastic.

Every jar of our honey comes with a granulation advisory, a warning not to feed infants under the age of one year honey, and a colorful attachment with recipes for Spicy Honey Marinade for Grilled Seafood and Steaks, Warm Banana Strawberry Shortcake, Ginger Honey Mustard Salad Dressing.

Also included in this pamphlet is honey storage information, and other interesting tidbits!

BEESWAX - COSMETIC GRADE 1 pound - 10.00 Pure golden wax, double screened for clarity. Very good quality wax for all purposes, including cosmetic grade items. Golden bars smell so good with just a touch of natural honey scent! Use for cosmetics, candles, sewing, beading crafts, fishing, furniture restoration, so much more!
BEESWAX - CRAFT GRADE 1/2 Pound - 3.00 Beeswax naturally darkens with age as the bees use it over and over. As a result, the wax may be shades of mustard yellow, dark brownish yellow, and may even at times have a greenish brown tint to it. This does not affect the quality of the wax, but it does look a bit funny if you are making lip balm. Ever used a brownish yellow lip product? If you are in need of quality wax and are not concerned about the color, this is the right choice for you, and at a discounted price compared to our cosmetic grade beeswax.
BEESWAX - CRAFT GRADE 1 pound - 6.00 Beeswax naturally darkens with age as the bees use it over and over. As a result, the wax may be shades of mustard yellow, dark brownish yellow, and may even at times have a greenish brown tint to it. This does not affect the quality of the wax, but it does look a bit funny if you are making lip balm. Ever used a brownish yellow lip product? If you are in need of quality wax and are not concerned about the color, this is the right choice for you, and at a discounted price compared to our cosmetic grade beeswax.

of seeds that honeybees simply adore! Keep that honey flowing with any of the following.
Be sure to visit our website for so many other choices!

BORAGE - BLUE - $2.50. Though we're not lucky enough to see this herb grown in mass like it is in New Zealand, we can grow quite a bit of it, and Oh! How it attracts the Honey Bees! Many a jar of honey sports the distinct flavor of Blue Borage. Rich in nectar, a must for any beekeeper. Keep in mind they will tend the Borage if White Clover is not available, but beggars can't be choosers. Typically reaching 2 foot tall, this herb will show off a bounty of blue flowers. Seeds are available in seed package for $2.50 or half pound packages for $5.00 for those who wish to grow a nice crop of Buckwheat. 2-3 pounds will cover 1,000 square foot. Grown as an annual.
BUCKWHEAT - BULK - ONE HALF POUND PACKAGE $5.00 (Fagopyrum esculentum) Here's a bit of trivia you won't want to forget! Beekeepers, you'll surely want this one around, it calls the honeybees from miles around to it's bounty of wonderfully fragrant blooms in bright pink and yellow. ATTRACTS HONEYBEES FRAGRANT HEAVENLY DATURA $2.50 50 seeds
Even young plants put off hundreds of huge 6" blooms which smell like heaven must! Honeybees can't help themselves when it comes to the sweet smell calling them closer. Profusions of blooms every evening can be kept going full speed ahead by simply removing the spent blossoms, which can number in the hundreds, and we're not kidding. I have a dozen of these plants that are several years old now along the front of our fence by the road, and WOW, does that attract attention! Very easy to grow perennial beauty!

FRAGRANT PASSION FLOWER / MAYPOP $2.50 Passiflora incarnata What an amazing bloom. You'll want to visit our Passion Flower Page for many more pictures and loads of information. Absolutely amazing flower is so bizarre you'll think it's artificial, but oh no, it's quite real, and quite fragrant! Bring on the bees with this one. The fragrance and the blooms...I can't decide which wins. Requires stratification, but easily accomplished by keeping the seeds in the refrigerator until spring or planting in the fall in warmer zones. Give it full sun and regular well-drained water for a perennial show your neighbor's can't beat. 20+ seeds.
COLORFUL MIX OF ZINNIAS $2.50 Zinnia elegans A colorful burst of blooms your bees will love! Pinks and yellows and oranges and oh so much more in this mix. Easy to grow, easy to gather seeds for each year, as this is an annual, meaning you will need to replant. Start seeds outdoors after all danger of frost has passed in the spring. 50+ seeds in a rainbow of color!

Even more great honeybee attracting plants:

ASTER $2.50
FLAX $2.50
COSMOS MIX $2.50 Cosmos
ANISE HYSSOP $2.50
SWEET MIGNONETTE Reseda odorata 100+ seeds - $2.50. If you enjoy heavily fragrant blossoms in the garden, this wonderful annual is the one for you! A vase full of fresh Sweet Mignonette can be smelled throughout the house! Easy to grow. Simply asks well drained soil. Though it can be grown in the sun, I find that it prefers a bit of shade in areas where the hot summer sun seems to beat it down, especially here in Oklahoma zone 7. The perfumed scent - how could you resist? Rumored in history to have been the flower Napoleon Bonaparte brought back for his beloved Josephine.

The plant itself may not be significant in the garden, but is a must for those who prefer cottage garden style. Very pleasant and powerful raspberry-like scent fills the air even yards and yards from the planting location. "Mignonette" is French for "Little Darling". Excellent choice for perfumed sachets and potpourri. Pinch tips to produce bushier plants bursting with fragrance! Direct sow in early spring after all frost danger has passed. A sun loving annual that will tolerate part shade. Grows 12-18" tall with wonderful spikes of creamsicle colored blooms.
