Over the years I've added little snippits of the happenings here at Wuv'n Acres.
Here is the latest:

You wanted snow, you got it! Ice, sleet, slush, snow and mush
hit Oklahoma on Friday. Today temperatures reached above freezing,
so it is all now a gigantic muddy mess. It was beautiful while it lasted,
but now it is just a big yucky matter. Alas, spring is soon on it's way!

MANY new changes are coming, or are already here!
After the economic downturn, I lost a pretty good job, and am back at home.
New computer, new email, new phones, a lot has changed.
We no longer have a home phone, but I can always be reached at the
same email we have had for years - karen@wuvie.net or castorbeans@gmail.com.
If you must talk to me, please send an email with TALK TO ME in the subject line
and your phone number. I will call.

We will soon be changing internet providers and even web hosts. This is going to
be a big job, please be patient with us if we happen to goof up a few times. It's all
going to be alright, it will just take a bit of time to straighten things out.
:-)

Seems the best schedule is to pack orders on the weekends. Daylight savings has helped a bit, but rare is the day I actually leave work by five. Sigh. Bear with me, folks.
January 24, 2009

Since my last update, I have now acquired an even longer commute, more hours at my new job and find myself longing for even one more hour in the day to live my life.

At present I have had to resort to packing seed orders on the weekends, and am very appreciative of your patience. Thank you so much!
April 24, 2008

A quick update with apologies.

I am burning the candle at both ends working full time at a day job with commute time and trying
to keep things in check with life and seed orders.

Please bare with me. I am next to impossible to reach via telephone, because by the time I get home
from work, put out the home fires and hit the computer, it is almost dark.
The best way to place an order is online or via mail or internet, my apologies.
Orders are taking about a week or less to get out, but please have patience and assume a week
before shipment just in case. I do appreciate each and every one of you and wish I could get the
orders out the same day.

December 2, 2007. Where did the year go? Sigh. This has really been the year of the car at our house. Tyson's car gave in, my car needs new tires, hubby had to buy another car for economical gas purposes and Cody's car was in dire need of a new softtop. Good grief. Just when you think it is coming to an end, all of the registrations, tags and insurance bills come in.

First the floods, now the drought. The plants were happy, things could not have been better. The rains came,
but they didn't stop. Soon even the state park was underwater. Now that August has arrived, the heat came with it. A few
days ago, we did receive rain, but we're right back to the heat again.

Harvesting a lot of Castor Bean seeds, Datura and Hollyhocks, though sadly we lost a few varieties. Maybe next year they will return.
Tyson is now 21, living with a friend, still working part time.
Cody is now 16, licensed to drive and working part time as well.
I feel like a grown up, but even though I have the house to myself each day, I can't seem to get everything accomplished.
There is a nonstop interruption. Sigh.

We have a new baby! She was adopted from a lady in Wagoner who specializes in pond plants. If you are ever in need of gorgeous
pond plants, you must look up Tranquility Plants in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
The kitten's name is Libby, though as of late I've been singing "Liblet, liblet, you're my little giblet" to her. Don't ask. Ha, ha!
She was born May 1, 2007. We adopted her June 15th, though it was funny to adopt her,
then ask Lawanna to babysit her while we grocery shopped.

Hubby has a new job, a new car, and life is good as long as you don't look at the bills.
The kiln hubby bought for me in April may be working soon!
Hub's grown daughter; Jackie called Tuesday, quite a surprise - we hardly ever hear from her.

This note brings sad news for our customers. Due to an increase in postal rates, we have had to change our shipping charges as well. First class mailing will now be $3.00 per seed order, regardless of size. This benefits those who order many seeds, as the cost will not increase. Please note, the fee does not cover heavier or larger seed items such as Black Walnuts, Devil's Claw Pods, etc.

I am terribly sorry to have to do this, but the times, they are-a-changing. Fraudulent claims are on the rise, so we have had to resort to shipping larger orders with Delivery Confirmation, which is not free of charge. This saddens me to have to change the rates, as we have always been proud to have low shipping costs.

Whew. What a winter this has been! In January, we were hit with the nastiest ice storm I've ever seen, that hubby has seen in quite some time living here in Northeastern Oklahoma. Good grief! Trees falling down everywhere, on the roof, on the gazebo frame, you name it, we had a tree, a limb or a branch on it. Just when things could not get any worse, we had a very old and HUMONGOUS Hackberry Tree laying in the middle of our driveway to the carport. Spring is typically a busy time for us, but this was ridiculous. The weather has not exactly been friendly, either, so it is 'brave the cold' to work hard cutting up all the wood, or just leave it be and hope for warmer days. I'd like to express my appreciation for the customers who were so kind and patient waiting for their orders in the middle of all this. We lost power, used generators, even showered in candlelight! Quite and experience, to say the least.

September 13, 2006. This morning we woke to cool temperatures for the first time. 50° and it isn't quite 9:00 a.m.
The gourd arbor is covered with beautiful morning glories in full bloom - quite a sight!
Not a lot to report at this time, I've been busy doing twenty things at once as usual, trying
to catch up on all the weeds that have grown. This year was not a good one for garden tending. I've had so much on my
plate and very little in my garden basket. :-( Perhaps next year I can focus more on the gardens. A disappointing time.

Ah, summer is here. We just had a wonderful rain before Father's Day, all of the Hollyhocks are in bloom,
the Cannas are beginning to bud and bloom, it's beautiful!

Hubby just harvested a crop of new potatoes while I poured two jars of honey for waiting customers; who mentioned a newfangled way of cooking potatoes. Boil them, then deep fry them. Hmm. I may have to do a little research on that, it sounds intriguing.
The term 'New potatoes' has a strange sound to it. One would think it meant the potatoes were new. Well, of course they are, but it sounds silly nonetheless. Nonetheless - yet another strange word. I digress. This year we grew our potatoes in, I jest not, tires. Yes, tires.

Too lazy to grow my own, I confess to having purchased market corn, but MMM is it good! Hubby and I delight in eating nothing but vegetables for dinner during the summer, though I painfully await squash. Oh, how I love squash!

My sister-in-law ; Kathryn, has finally returned from Kentucky. I certainly have missed her. She's probably the only one besides my immediate family who understands me. Nothing shocks her. If I told her I was going to paint the house pink with pencils sticking out of it, she would applaud my artistry. And speaking of my odd quirks in creativity, wait until you see what I'm up to next! Watch this page for updates, you'll surely flip over my latest project.

Good grief, we've survived Driver's Education for the youngest! Cody passed with flying colors! Now all we have to do is wait until November, and then the dreaded learner's permit. "Mom, can I drive you to the grocery store?" It's going to be odd, I'm sure!

I believe I'm going to take an actual vacation in September. Not long, only a week or so, but I'll be sure to mention it on the website so you can plan your orders around this date.

It is now April 10, 2006. Tyson's birthday has come and gone, he's 20 now! Am I old enough to have a son of 20??

Spring has sprung. We've advanced the clocks and groaned over the loss of an hour's sleep. *yawn*
Who had the silly idea to start this time saving thing, anyhow? I digress.
I've been terribly busy trying to clean out the berry patch of weeds. I'm winning this week, at least.

Oh, oh, good news! We now accept credit card orders over the phone! I'm so excited to be able to offer this additional ordering method, it's been a long time coming. You may call your order in, mail it in or even email it. Of course, we always have the online system with Paypal for the do-it-yourselfers.
We are excited about the season and are currently planting gourds along our gourd arbor.

This is going to be a fantastic garden summer, I can just feel it!

Superbowl Sunday! It is now February 5. We have been enjoying some very unseasonable weather as of late. The Crocus are blooming, Canna are emerging, daylilies are poking up all over the gardens, and I am very excited about the coming season. There are many plants growing in our small greenhouse room, including 50 castor bean plants. We never seem to grow enough for the gardeners out there, so this year we are determined to have plenty in stock for all.

The family is doing well. Tyson is nearing 20, and though he is still living at home, we hardly see him. Between work and his friends, I often wonder if it is time to take over his room. (Evil grin comes across my face!) Cody is nearing 15 and filled with visions of Driver's Education classes and a sweet young thing named Summer. Oh my. Rog has been busy cutting down dead trees in the back property for firewood, and I, of course, am busy running around buring the candle at both ends as always. Crafts as of late include mosaics, rag rug making and my newest love - making wind chimes out of silverware.

Here it is, Christmas Eve! The presents are wrapped, the turkey is thawing, and as I type this, numerous birds are flitting about outside the office window. The last five minutes have brought both male and female Northern Cardinal - Cardinalis
I recently added a shelf next to one of the windows complete with a bird feeder. As I work at the desk quite often, it occurs to me that an entire row of feeders across the office will be spectacular! Ah, we'll add that one to the 'to do list'.

Lately I've been counting, packaging and labeling seeds to get ready for the winter and spring gardeners. Part of my New Year's resolutions are to work on the site more often, upload more pictures and keep seed packages ready to go faster.

Brr! As of this posting it is November 16, 2005, six days away from Wub's birthday! It also happens to be the anniversary for my ten years of not smoking! Yep, I finally put those nasty things down on hubby's birthday in 1995. Ten years!

It's getting pretty cold here. We have been lighting the wood burning stove for about a week now, with tonight being the coldest night of the season, or so it is reported. We'll find out during the night when the fight for blankets takes place.

'Tis the season to harvest many seeds for the site. We had a small crop of Persimoon, but a bumper crop of Burr Oak Acorns.
Though we did not grow a large batch of gourds, we did harvest some beautiful specimens, of which four are the thickest most beautiful kettle gourds we've ever grown. I'm so happy and cannot wait to share the bounty of this harvest when the gourds mature and are ready to release their seeds.
Stay tuned to the website, we will announce when these beauties are ready!

Well, it's off to the kitchen for another bite to eat!

June 11, 2005

Hello fellow gardeners! Things have settled down a bit since May, but a load of work awaited me in June!

Today we harvested quite a bit of honey from our beehives,
quite an exciting event for all of us!
The jars were clean and ready, the honey flowed like liquid gold
and it's all ready bottled and ready to travel to it's various new
homes including local vendors, flea markets and even internet sales.
After the honey mess is cleaned up, I'll begin melting wax for candles!
Thank you, our dear honey bees, for all of your hard work!

'Tis a busy season so far, much to be done each day.
Mornings are spent with pen and paper in hand, tags a-blowing in the wind
for pollinating procedures in our daylily gardens.

Though the garden is going through some cosmetic touch-ups,
we hope to soon have new photos on the website of all the hard work
that has been done to complete my latest garden makeover idea, and
what a doozy it is! We hope you'll visit our daylily page to browse the
many daylily plants available for local pick-up as well as mail order.

Starting late summer / early fall we will be listing hundreds of stunning daylily crosses
in seed form from the very plants listed on our daylily page. Imagine the thrill of growing
a daylily from seed with Forty Carats and King Lamoni as it's parents...
just one of the many blends I've tried this summer.

I am thankful for the patience and understanding of our customers during the busy time between May and June.
You have been so easy to work with under all this pressure.
You may never know how very much I truly appreciate your kindness!

May your garden be lovely now and always,
Karen Manasco
