CLEANING UP AFTER YOUR HOLLYHOCKS...
Provided for you byWuv'n Acres©

As your hocks die back in the gawd-awful heat of summer, try to keep the dried up leaves cut off and removed from the plant stalks as well as those on the ground. Keeping the dead foliage picked up will help to keep rust and other diseases at bay a bit longer. Use sharp garden scissors, do not yank the leaves from the plant. Inducing injury while infected...not a good practice if you want a beautiful garden. Also, don't put the leaves into your compost pile, as they may contain spores which will continue to live on. Bag 'em up and kick 'em to the curb! Don't yank seed pods off, either, use a sharp pair of snippers or scissors.

If you have snipped off all of the seed pods from a limb, there is no need to keep it on the plant unless it has nice foliage, but chances are at this point the limb is just a stick of nothing. Cut this from the plant so as not to waste energy which could be transferred to the root system or other vital branches. When an entire stalk is seed pod and bloom free, cut it down to the ground. Don't worry, you can leave a little stalk at the base to remember where your plant is. Still green? Don't be concerned.
